The topic will be addressed from the perspectives of philosophy, cognitive science, linguistics and human-computer interaction. Key questions include, though are not limited to the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can LLMs (such as ChatGPT) make assertions?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are our normative expectations towards AI interlocutors similar to those which govern linguistic human-human interaction?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If they differ, what are the norms of AI assertion?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can artificial agents make \u201cdark moves\u201d in linguistic communication (e.g. lie, bullshit, deceive etc.), or do those require a full-fledged human agent?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who is responsible for shortcomings in linguistic AI-human communication?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do our normative expectations towards AI assertors interact with our dispositions to trust and rely on them?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the concept of trust make sense in linguistic human-AI interaction?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SUBMISSION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please send an anonymized abstract of&nbsp;<strong>500 words<\/strong>&nbsp;(not including references) in PDF format to&nbsp;<strong>ai.assertion.graz@gmail.com<\/strong>. A strong connection to the topic is required. All submissions will be reviewed double-blind by the organizing team.
